Composer and teacher Dr Avrohom Leichtling is one of the foremost authorities on Raff's music. A Julliard alumnus, he has held teaching posts in several prestigious institutions and for over 50 years has created an extensive catalogue of works in all major genres, including 11 symphonies. Dr Leichtling has written extensively about Raff's most important compositions for almost twenty years and brings a composer's insight to his detailed and absorbing essays analysing them. These are significant contributions to our understanding of Raff and his music.

There are forewords to facsimile reprints of study scores available from Musikproduktion Jürgen Höflich and to new editions of Raff scores published by Edition Nordstern, together with CD booklet notes for Sterling and Divox releases. All are made available here with the publishers' kind permission. Two essays were specially written for this website. Each article is available separately as a PDF file for reading online, and downloadable for printing and offline use.
